Concerns about Smart Boards in Education
After extensive searches we have found very little information about the negative aspects of using smart boards. To acquire a balanced view we have explored the opinions of a range of people who have experience using and learning in classrooms utilizing smart boards.
Smart Boards require training.
"Smart boards are a waste of funding. Teachers don't know how to use them, and they don't add anything to the 'learning experience' that can't be done with a ppt. They sound good in theory, but are impractical when teachers accidentally touch the wrong part of the board. They aren't even used enough to justify the amount of money that the school spends on them. And, finally, I've had to use one, and they aren't very responsive." Chantal Angus, Year 12 student, Brigidine College. |
Smart Boards are expensive.
"...implementing technology-enhanced classrooms requires money, infrastructure, and constant support. Technical and Instructional support needs to be provided for faculty members to make certain that technology is working and put to good instructional use" (Strauss, 2002). |
Smart Boards may add to the technology overload.
